JOE CRAFTON SPORTSMAN'S COMPLEX

The BSA has a long and proud history of teaching young people the important relationship between shooting, hunting and wildlife conservation. With over 2 million shooting merit badges awarded and 500 camps that offer shooting activities, Scouting has taught more people gun safety and shooting skills than any other organization in the world. Wildlife Conservation has always been important to me and to Scouting. The BSA has dozens of merit badges including Environmental Science, Soil and Water Conservation, Bird Study, Mammal Study, Wildlife Management etc.

In 2012 as we were planning the Bechtel Summit Bechtel Reserve, we were looking for exciting and interactive ways to communicate the principals and values of Scouting to young people. Our vision is to have a place where thousands of youth each year could learn the simple yet often untaught concept; Hunters = Habitat = Wildlife. In the “Joe Crafton Hunter's Hall” visitors will see the long and impressive history of the BSA and hunting. They will see the success stories of Scouts who are hunters and how they have been instrumental in the recovery of Waterfowl, Eastern Turkey, Whitetail Deer and many others. They will see the critical role that hunters have in funding and land stewardship as well as learn about hunting dogs and opportunities to hunt wherever they live. In the Skills Building, they will use the latest technology to learn firearm safety, test their knowledge of wildlife conservation and learn shooting skills that will prepare them to go to the “Barrels” area to put their knowledge to work

The Barrels at the Summit Bechtel Reserve is the third largest shooting complex in the world. Youth shot over 2 million rounds of ammunition at the National Jamboree last summer at the Summit Bechtel Reserve. We hope that you will see the tremendous investment the BSA is making to the future of shooting, hunting and wildlife conservation.
